Marc-Éddy Loriston was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He has been developing his artistic talent since he first built toys from found materials in nature at the age of 4 on a farm outside of l’Artibonite. Now based in the Bay Area, he studied painting and film at CalArts, obtained a BA in Cinema Arts from SFSU, and an MFA in Film Production from NYU. His main inspirations are rooted in Haitian culture, and the complexities of interpersonal dynamics. Using film, painting, and other mixed media, Loriston’s primary interests lie in addressing issues of gender, ethnicity, and race while simultaneously challenging preconceived notions about Haitian artists.
